Operating outside of compliance can be a costly affair once a regulator arrives on your site.
Aztech will help you be ready
Environmental Compliance, Audits and Permitting
Our geologists and engineers are experienced and capable of handling all petroleum tank needs. From installation, compliance and audit issues to the removal and subsequent sampling and remediation techniques, Aztech can do it all.
Petroleum Equipment Removals and Excavation
When Aztech Technologies, Inc. (Aztech) oversees the removal of petroleum equipment, our clients are assured of a professional outcome. Aztech geologists are well versed in state and federal regulatory requirements and provide informed, experienced solutions to any environmental problems encountered during the removal of petroleum equipment. Aztech has provided oversight for hundreds of petroleum equipment removals. As an experienced consultant, Aztech documents all of the site activities, which include the conditions of the USTs and post excavation soils and groundwater quality. The documented information is then presented in a concise, succinct closure report. Aztech also provides assistance with the completion of required NYSDEC regulatory paperwork and any potential litigation.
A typical tank removal scenario starts by removing the USTs and associated infrastructure. Then the soil and groundwater are evaluated by an Aztech geologist. If soil impacted above NYSDEC regulatory guidance values is identified then the soils are excavated to the extent physically possible or practical. Post excavation side wall and bottom soil samples are collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis. The excavation is then backfilled with a suitable imported clean material, or new petroleum infrastructure is installed. After submittal of the tank closure report the activated NYSDEC spill file is generally closed.
Petroleum Bulk Storage Compliance Audits
NYSDEC mandates 3rd party audits of petroleum bulk storage (PBS) facilities. Aztech understands the complexities of the PBS regulations and proper operation of petroleum storage equipment, and are capable of providing clients with experienced and informed feedback. Aztech’s goal during a facility audit is to both identify the problematic or deficient equipment or paperwork, and provide solutions and education to fix the identified problems or deficiencies. Aztech’s geologists and engineers are trained and capable.
Some commonly deficient areas that will be identified quickly are:
PBS Paperwork (i.e., Certificate…)
As Built Drawings
Daily Inventory Records with Reconciliations
Cathodic Protection Systems (testing and design)
Leak Detection Systems
Electronic or Mechanical Line Leak Detector (system compatibility, operation and testing)
Automatic Tank Gauge Monitoring System (functionality, programming, and monitoring)
Aboveground Storage Tank (design, monthly monitoring and containment)
Overfill Prevention Device (functionality and monitoring)
Spill Prevention Device (functionality, monitoring and design)
Electronic Sensors (functionality and application)
API Color Coding
Dispenser (monitoring and design)
Any additional routine maintenance
Aztech understands that NYSDEC audits are both costly and stressful. Aztech has educated and certified UST inspectors on staff who are thorough and empathetic. We strive to help solve our client’s compliance issues in the least stressful and cost effective manner possible.
